An Overview of Presidential Messages on July 28th

President @PedroCastilloTe presidential message on Peru's bicentennial is the 5th longest inaugural speech since 1963. It has ~7,000 words, it's the first to mention "afroperuanos," and it's the one that has said the word "constitution" the most times. More in this 🧵

The longest speeches: Castillo used ~7,000 words. He was surpassed by García (twice), who always had speeches over 10,000 words, and the military governments that also had lengthy speeches (>8000).

The shortest speeches: Vizcarra's, with 1,384 words. The two transitional governments are the next shortest, both with fewer than 2,000 words. Until today, it seemed that over time, speeches tended to become shorter. Castillo almost tripled the recent ones.

The words Pedro Castillo used the most were "peruana/o," "salud," "pueblo," and "gobierno." In the image, the top 10 of his 💬 #PedroCastillo fueron “peruana/o”, “salud”, “pueblo” y “gobierno”. En la imagen el top10 de su 💬

All the words in Pedro Castillo's top 10 are in the top 10 of some other president. We compared the top 10 most used words by different presidents since 1963.

Which speeches used similar words? We see that Castillo uses words similar to those of Humala, Toledo, and the second García.

While there is similarity among the words used by the governments prior to Fujimori's first term. Sagasti stands out, as his speech used very different words from the others.

The new: Castillo has been the 1️⃣st president (at least since 1963) to mention "afroperuano," "shipibo," "wari," "tawantinsuyo." He has also been the first to mention Japanese 🇯🇵 and Chinese 🇨🇳 immigration.

Although Tupac Amaru had been mentioned in inaugural speeches by Morales Bermudez and by Alan Garcia in his first government, Castillo is the first to mention Micaela Bastidas ✊🏽

Castillo has also been the president who has mentioned the word "constitution" the most times. And he has mentioned the word "Salud" the most times.

Finally, some of the most curious findings are in this image that shows what each president talked about the most.

Castillo talked about "millions of soles," and PPK talked about "the year 2021." Vizcarra, Humala, Toledo, and Morales Bermúdez talked about "todos los peruanos" (all Peruvians); Fujimori(1) talked about "los derechos humanos" (human rights), and Velasco talked about "el gobierno revolucionario" (the revolutionary government).
